Fair

Been workin' like a dawg, slavin' on the fence line, Stretching' those wires tight.
Diggin' and tappin' and sweatin' in the sunshine, But I get off t'night.  I got a date with a girl, a perdy ranchers daughter, Green as her golden hair.  Gonna pick her up at 8 after some soap and water.  and we're headin' to the county fair.
Well there's a full moon in the western sky, And there's magic in the air.  Ain't nothin' I know of, can make you fall in love, Like a night at the county fair.  Well, we walked through the midway, the lights and the laughter, She puts her little hand in mine.
Well, she don't act like she knows what I'm after, But t'night I'm gonna make her mine.
You know the tunnel of love, well it ain't my style.  So I'm gonna take on the ferris wheel.  Way up in the sky, with the stars in her eyes, I'm gonna tell her just how I feel.
Well, there's a full moon in the western sky, And there's magic in the air.  Ain't nothin' I know of, can make you fall in love, Like a night at the county fair.  Well I know Monday mornin', I'll be back on the fence-line, But it'll be allright.  'Cause that perdy little girl says she's gonna be all mine.  I'm gonna see her next Friday night.  Well there's a full moon in the western sky, And there's magic in the air.  Ain't nothin' I know of, can make you fall in love, Like a night at the county fair.  Ain't nothin' I know of, can make you fall in love, Like a night at the county fair.

What a great song that sums up the week of the county fair perfect for me.  I live every year for the Box Elder County Fair.  There is no other fair better than this one.  I was a little sad this year knowing it was my last year showing in the fair but that won't change a thing I will always spend the whole week at the fair from dusk to dawn.  I had a cute boy to be with me all week also which made it even better.  I did this fair a little differently then normal.  I helped with lamb weigh-ins on Tuesday night then we had a lamb dinner with the committee members after that was delicious.  Wednesday we woke up early to feed our lambs at the farm one last time then loaded them up and took them to the fair grounds to weigh them all in I had butterflies all morning worried my lamb wouldn't make weight due to an injury earlier in the summer where it fell back on eating and wasn't gaining weight once it got on the scale and I heart 110 I was relieved made it by 5 lbs. I then washed it up and gave it a shearing job and then washed it again and put it away to relax.  Me and my dad went and got a fair burger and coke and then headed home to get ready for the parade.  We went and watched the parade and then headed back to the fair grounds and WAS planning on going to bulls, broncs, and barrels but it decided to down pour.  So why my family attempted the rodeo I said no way I'd rather comfort.  So I spent the night with my favorite boy and his family watching the heifer show and relaxing in the steer barn and enjoying a fair scone.  I loved being able to hang out in the steer barn and see another part of the fair I had never really seen before everyone there is so fun to visit with and we definitely had some good laughs.  Thursday was show day I was the second class bright and early and took 4th which I was very happy with due to my light weight lamb. I continued to spend the day watching the lamb show and helping my cousin and brother prep their lambs.  After that things got crazy I was running back and forth between the lamb show and steer show trying to watch all my favorite people show.  Everyone did great by the way... After that I competed in the fitting contest where they bring in a bunch of dirty ewe lambs off the mountain and you are responsible to use three tools a cury comb, card, and hand shears to fit the lamb to look its nicest.  This is probably my favorite part but also my weakest strength.  I felt really good with what I had done with the lamb and ended up with fourth place.  That night we attended the rodeo for family night and loved every minute of it except the fact that we didn't bring coats or blankets and froze to death.  Friday morning was showmanship which I was excited to do but no one else in my division signed up so I didn't do it because I wasn't gonna show in front of a ton a people all by myself.  So I went and watched the steer showmanship then helped with prizes and keeping record of winners in the sheep showmanship.  That night my family went to the tough enough to wear pink rodeo where it down poured and we got drenched thanks to EJ he atleast kept me warm.  Then we headed back and me and EJ went to the steer barn where we sat and visited until 1:30 a.m. of the memories and laughs were so worth it.  The dreaded day was now here Saturday where everything comes to an end.  I got up early and headed out to watch the pig sale for awhile then headed to clean my lamb up and get ready to sale sale where I was in the top of my class I sold right at the first of the sale.  My lamb sold for $1000 to Central Milling the company my dad works for.  I then sat around all day till the very last animal of the sale.  We live in such an awesome supportive committee they spent over 1 million dollars on purchasing the youths livestock projects.  That night we just walked around and enjoyed the fair and savored every minute of it.  My awesome boy friend took me over to the rodeo and bought me the CUTEST pair of boots for my birthday I still am head over heels with them and him.  He sure spoils me and I can't ever thank him enough.  After that we headed to the steer barn and did a little more gossiping and then began to clean everything up and load it to head back to the fair.  It sucks to have this week come to an end but also just starts the countdown and gets us excited for another great year!!
